The Mouttet Mile Invitational, the richest horse race in the English-speaking Caribbean, returns to Jamaica’s legendary Caymanas Park on December 7th, 2024, promising a racing weekend unlike any other in the Caribbean.
The centerpiece, a Grade One race for three-year-olds and upwards over a mile (1600 meters), boasts a staggering US$250,000 purse, attracting the finest regional and international thoroughbreds. This year 16 participants will be vying for the title, with ten positions reserved for horses domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2024, and six positions designated for horses not domiciled in Jamaica before the same date, emphasizing the event’s commitment to showcasing local talent.
But the Mouttet Mile is merely the opening act to an unforgettable Jamaican adventure. Before the excitement of race day, enjoy glamorous pre-race galas and social events where racing aficionados can mingle, network, and place early bets on their favorites. And as the day surrenders to dusk, experience Jamaica’s legendary nightlife with infectious rhythms of reggae and Caribbean music in the many trendy Kingston clubs.
Outside Portmore, the rest of Jamaica is open for exploration. Starting with Kingston, Jamaica’s vibrant capital, which pulsates with a rich history and a captivating culture. For the ultimate Caribbean experience, however, explore Jamaica on the water and indulge in a luxurious catamaran cruise. Snorkel through coral reefs teeming with marine life, bask on secluded beaches, and savor gourmet lunches prepared by private chefs on board. For the epicures, Jamaica also offers piquant and fiery Caribbean fare. Beyond stopping by the ubiquitous jerk shack or a sit-down restaurant, take a private cooking class and learn the secrets of Jamaican cuisine from a local chef.
